Another blue-sky feature for cookies: if I had some visual indication, kind of like IE's privacy status in the status bar, if any cookies have been set, queried, or blocked... there are sites which have ads that come from domains other than the current url, so its not always clear where a cookie came from i.e. www.foo.com might have an ad from banners.bar.com, and its not always obvious from looking in the cookie manager, where this cookie originated

I think this is a dup of bug 67580.

The new p3p icon does sort of what you are requesting -- it indicates if a cookie has been blocked based on the users privacy settings. So I'm closing this out as fixed. Please reopen if you have something more specific in mind that you would like to have implemented. Your request for knowing if an accepted cookie is a third-party cookie is a separate issue. If you still want that, please open that request in a separate bug report.

And what are the odds of seeing this in a nightly? (bug 128639)
Raise that issue in bug 128639.

sorry, no I did mean something more specific. I meant that the current window should show some sort of cookie indicator _for_the_current_page_ in the current UI, all windows get the icon as soon as any window gets a site that uses cookies, and it stays on. I think there should be an icon (in addition, or replacing the current one) which indiciates if the current document in view has a cookie - if you go to a page which does not use cookies, the icon should go away in that window.

What exactly do you mean be "uses cookies"? Do you mean setting a cookie or reading a cookie?
From the summary I see you said "has set cookies" so let's restrict it to that. Reading of cookies is a more passive thing that the site itself doesn't request -- any cookies set for that site get sent back to it automatically when a page request is made.

I didn't realize that cookies were sent automatically... in any case I guess what I'm most interested in is simply the per-window aspect of the feature... so "has set cookies" seems like a good start, and eventually I suppose we could add additional features such as changing the icon to indicate that cookies exist, but were not set, and so forth.

-> me the statusbar-based cookie controls should do this, once I implement all of that (show blocked with one icon, and set with another, with popups to change per-site settings)

Not going to be working on any Seamonkey UI bugs for the foreseeable future. You can filter on "danlikesgoats" to delete this spam.
