For instance, http://rss.cnn.com/rss/edition_europe.rss shows me a reader mode icon, which seems surprising... :-)

See also bug 1107097 - may be able to fix both bugs with the same change.
Can't reproduce this anymore, though I wonder if it's to do with the size of the paragraphs in the feeds.
