On Linux, I used to triple-click in the search bar to select the already entered text, generally to delete it to type something new. But now Firefox 36 (and 35 too, IIRC) opens a search menu (which I hate personally :)) and prevents me to select the whole text. This is an annoying regression from a UX point of view.

I am having the same issue on Windows (FireFox 36.0 Portable) and Linux (Firefox 36.0 Linux Mint). It definitely is a UX degradation, as you can't select the entire contents of the search bar in order to over-write it with a new entry.

As with the previous bug report, I also hate the new search menu, which forces recognition of the different search providers by their icons as opposed to customisable text as in the previous Search menu. It wasn't broken, why did you fix it? Major UX regression, and possibly a problem for Accessibility too.

I'm experiencing this as well (Arch Linux, i3wm). It's quite annoying as I've been triple-clicking to select the entire contents of the search bar for quite a while now.

A workaround (to revert to the previous style of Search menu) exists:
* in a new tab, enter about:config in the address bar.
* dismiss any warning dialog
* search for the settings key: browser.search.showOneOffButtons
* double clicking sets it to false
* restart Firefox
* you should now have the old style 'text menu' search box, and the triple clicking aberration is fixed
