This is not a bug - just a wish. When new mail arrives, a sound is played. On my
computer a short beep. However, I'm sometimes not by the computer and miss the
beep. Mozilla Mail is minimized somewhere on the taskbar. And thus I miss the
mail which has arrived until I look into the inbox for the next time, what I
often forget of for hours... I think it would be EXTREMELY useful, if Mozilla
opened a very simple pop-up dialog, just stating "You have new mail!" and OK
button. Nothing more. That's completely enough. I'm not a Mozilla developer, but
I guess this shouldn't be too difficult to add...? Thanks.

confirming rfe.... but with any reasonable volume of mail this would get
incredibly annoying. If we do this, it should be an option and default to off.

Sure. Of course noone would be forced to have it like this. In the mail
preferences is a check-box asking whether the user wishes to play a sound when a
new mail arrives. So, below it would be another check-box asking whether the
user wishes to have pop-up alert when a new mail arrives. Off by default... That
exactly was my idea when posting this rfe.

One of my colleages misses the functionality of Outlook and Outlook express,
which add an icon to the windows taskbar (in the tray near the clock) to
indicate that a new email has arrived.  Perhaps this would be a better
alternative to the intrusion of a pop-up window?

Having an option to show an alert on new mail is necessary for full support of
Internet Config on Mac OS.

Marking dependent on bug 95649, since it would be pretty crazy for the new mail
alert to have a /!\ icon instead of a (i) icon.
