The message pane draws over the status bar (hiding the status bar) the first
time a message is selected in Mail. In Linux trunk build 2001-12-06-08, the
message pane immediately resizes and the status bar becomes visible, but in some
cases the status bar remains covered up. (The case of the status bar remaining
covered up i've only been able to reproduce in a 2001-12-04 build.)
Reproducible: always (i think)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Mail. If it was already open, you must close it and reopen it.
2. Keeping your eye on the status bar, select a message in the message pane.
Note that the status bar area under the message pane gets covered up
by the message pane either permanently or just for an instant.
In cases where the status bar gets covered up only for an instant, this will
only work on the first message selected. Subsequent messages selected will
display normally.
This may be related to bug 113767.
I will attach an image of the status bar permanently covered up.

I have a similar problem with buildID 2001122003 on Win2000 where the message
pane seems too big and blanks out part of the status bar. This only happens when
you have the mail window at a certain size and only before you start adjusting
the size of the message pane within the 3 mail windows
