Details
Using Linux build 2001-12-06-08, but i don't think that the bug was there two
days before that. About half the time when i open Mail, i cannot select any
message from the message pane. I must close Mail and try again.
Steps:
1. Open Mail. Try to select a message from the message pane. (Try to select
a different message each time you do this. There may be something
special about the top message, but i can't tell yet.)
2. Close Mail.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 several times.
Results:
You can select a message only about %50 of the time.
This may be related to bug 113816, which only describes a problem with double
clicking. However, the reporter there notes that if double-clicking fails, then
you can no longer select any message.

Aha! I think i have figured out what is happening now and have changed the
summary to reflect this. Ignore the previous instructions.
What happens is that the entired Mail interface (though not other Mozilla
windows) will freeze up if you hover your cursor long enough over a subject line
in the thread pane that a tooltip appears. If you select a message before a
tooltip appears, everything's fine and dandy. But once that tooltip appears,
Mail freezes.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Mail.
2. In the thread pane, hover over the subject line of a message long
enough for a tooltip to appear.
Results:
Presto! Mozilla Mail is frozen. Reproducible always, i think.
Build:
2001-12-05-08
Summary: cannot select any message in message pane → Mail interface freezes if subject line tooltip appears

Forgive me for the multiple summary changes as i get more details on this. Now
it appears that Mail is not actually freezing. What is happening is that it
ceases to respond to mouse events. Even though Mail looks like it's frozen,
keyboard navigation is still possible.
Summary: Mail freezes if subject line tooltip appears → no mouse events in Mail after subject tooltip appears in thread pane

I don't think so, either. See my bug 113536#c19. (I don't know if you can do
this to get the link to the comment. I mean bug 113536, comment 19.)

OK, I'll trust ya! I just thought that since the other bug is Windows and
you're messing in nsWindow.cpp, that this one was different since it's Linux.
