From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X; en-US; rv:0.9.6) Gecko/20011120 BuildID: 2001112020 The appearance of the Fizzilla installer disk image can be improved by performing two modifications: 1. Enlarge the icon to large size 2. Move the text to a background picture that incorporates the Mozilla.org logo or perhaps the Fizzilla splash screen Both of these can be done using the "Show View Options" View menu item in the Mac OS X Finder.
Also, the toolbar should be hidden on the installer window.
Attached image Candidate disk image background image (obsolete) —
Attaching a candidate background image for the disk. It consists of the Fizzilla splash sreen graphic faded into the background, with the text embedded thereon. The Mozilla folder gets placed into the lower-right corner in this scheme.
Additionally, the disk image should have a volume name of "Mozilla for Mac OS X" rather than "Mozilla for MacOS X".
Summary: Add background picture to Fizzilla disk image and enlarge icon size → Add background picture to Fizzilla disk image, enlarge icon size, and rename
Forgot to remove the drop shadow from the splash screen image. It's not appropriate for a window background.

I'm reassigning the bug to jj since he builds the disk image 'installer' for Fizzilla, not syd. I'll also comment that builds are currently done under Mac OS 9 (it builds faster than under OS X) so it isn't really possible to do some of the things you ask. The fact that we're using a DiskCopy image rather than a .dmg disk image is another issue. Yes it would be a nice enhancment but I don't think our current build system will accomodate it.

I said in bug 55819 that this would look unavoidably tacky, and I think attachment 60772 [details] demonstrates the tackiness quite well.
Perhaps, mpt. My mockup was intended to be a demonstration, after all. A good designer could come up with something much better, I'm sure. I must say that it's certainly no *less* tacky than the silly, hacked-up invisible-folders-with-text-and-arrows that's on the OS X disk image now. Wouldn't you agree?
I think invisible-folders-with-text-and-arrows are tacky no matter what they're being compared to. But that's just me.
As long as our build automation is running under OS9, there is no other viable solution but the tacky-invisible-folders-with-text-and-arrows. (I looked into generating .DS_store files but quickly gave up since I couldn't find any documentation on the structure of this binary file) I'm currently trying to make this automation to run under X with minimum changes to it. When this is complete and the cycle time has not increased by more than about 15%, it will be worth spending time on a new packaging scheme using dmg files with fancier Finder windows as we all would like to see them. However, migrating the current applescript-based automation is not the focus of the Release Team as I already explained. We'd much rather like to see OSX native only tools (read no more MacPerl!) driven by Perl or shell scripts, just like the current chimera automation. When this happens, we'll implement a nice-looking package and window layout, I promise.

Can this bug be fixed now that the transition to FizzillaMach has happened? It would seem so.
I'll try to have this done for 1.3 final, but honestly, I have many other mach-o related changes to make to the build & packaging automation that are way more important than this.
It's obviously not that important. If you have a lot to do, I'd suggest you put it off until 1.4a.
I think it's already solved : the Mozilla 1.3 disk image (release condidate) came with a nice background picture.
Jo: Thank you for the "nice", given that the design comes from a release engineer :-) I found the first draft I did too sharp, but the more I look at this one, the more I think it's too blur. I might replace it with a better one for 1.4. If someone feels inspired, feel free to attach bitmaps to this bug. I'll consider all suggestions.
