They are so small and low quality (average size is less than 200 bytes), made
with ovals (not circles) and again because of the quality, looks pixelated.

I have done a zip file with most of the faces-* gifs, with richer color and
quality, some taken from mail, some taken from gaim.

Unzip into your extensions/irc/xul/skin/images folder for testing

I tried them, and look a lot better, but still they look small to me, and i even
set the original size (14x14) , if you like them i will make them in original
size (between 17x17 and 19x19)

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Use emoticons
2.
3.

Actual Results: Low sized gifs mean low quality

Expected Results: They could be improved
Probably will have to make them bigger
It's a zip file. I chose binary file, i guess i should have tried to put .zip
directly. Save it as a zip file to decompress.
The face icons were made small to they didn't affect the line height. Even at
their current size they still add a pixel or two the line height. I'd prefer to
keep them the size they are.

We could maybe redesign motifs a bit to allow folks to drop in new faces under
their current motif.

Also, face-frown, face-smile, and face-wink from that zip file look pretty bad
to me. The others look ok to me at first glance, but how to they look against
light and dark motifs?
Our line height problem is making us use really small gifs
I dont know how trillian handles it (www.trillian.cc) but their irc client
aren't bugged by the emoticons. I guess by default they make lines separated at
some distance, so when an emoticon is inserted, the line height is not affected.

I specifically tested the images under the dark theme.

What are your issues with those 3 gifs you mentioned?

My main purpose in this bug, is to:
-Make the gifs have stronger color. Current ones are using a yelloy-ish color i
dont properly know how to define it. The icons i provided use a pure, chicken-
like yellow, which is more "happy"

-Use circles for faces. Most of them are using ovals

-Polishness: current ones are not even 200 bytes of size, so they look
pixelated, and even some images have spots.

I will take another shot at this when time permits
Trillian doesn't "handle" them at all, really. You end up a 50% line-height gap
above lines with emoticons. :)
This is currently being worked on using the phoenity.com icon set.
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Currently working on a plugin to let ChatZilla use Gaim emoticon themes. A
working version is at http://jjfoerch.com/dist The filename is
emoticons.0.??.tar.gz. Improvements are on the way.
Depends on: 255081
ChatZilla 0.9.65 has landed. I believe this bug is fixed now; if it is not
fixed, please re-open the bug stating why you don't believe it's fixed.

Until an XPI is made of 0.9.65, 0.9.64g will do as for testing as it is
basically the same codebase.
