Description: When the user is downloading the OTA to update their phone, they will observe that two icons are present on their status bar while downloading: a waterfalling arrow, and a shifting square. This presents an odd UX to the user after initiating a single action to generate multiple observed behaviors the phone may be performing. Both icons appear regardless if the update is downloading over etiher Wi-Fi or Data. Repro Steps: 1) Update a Flame to 20150413010203 2) Connect to a Wi-Fi connection 3) Navigate to Settings 4) Locate an OTA update: begin download 5) Swipe down Notification Tray 6) Observe new icons in status bar for OTA download Actual: Status Bar creates two icons while downloading an OTA Update ( arrow + square ) Expected: Status Bar creates a single icon while downloading an OTA update ( arrow ) Environmental Variables: -------------------------------------------------- Device: Flame 3.0 Build ID: 20150413010203 Gaia: 3c68964cb9fdba7cf0f6829b7f44562acaf1f1d7 Gecko: 0a46652bd992 Gonk: b83fc73de7b64594cd74b33e498bf08332b5d87b Version: 40.0a1 (3.0) Firmware Version: v18D-1 User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; rv:40.0) Gecko/40.0 Firefox/40.0 -------------------------------------------------- Device: Flame 2.2 BuildID: 20150413002502 Gaia: cec00d643f517ffd96cde559cd3bbd43ab85816c Gecko: 5005522fd68e Gonk: ebad7da532429a6f5efadc00bf6ad8a41288a429 Version: 37.0 (2.2) Firmware Version: v18D User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; rv:37.0) Gecko/37.0 Firefox/37.0 -------------------------------------------------- Device: Flame 2.1 BuildID: 20150413001204 Gaia: bbe983b4e8bebfec26b3726b79568a22d667223c Gecko: a1b2434ad001 Gonk: ebad7da532429a6f5efadc00bf6ad8a41288a429 Version: 34.0 (2.1) Firmware Version: v18D User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; rv:34.0) Gecko/34.0 Firefox/34.0 -------------------------------------------------- Device: Flame 2.0 BuildID: 20150413000202 Gaia: 84898cadf28b1a1fcd03b726cff658de470282f0 Gecko: 5c45a15eb2b4 Gonk: b83fc73de7b64594cd74b33e498bf08332b5d87b Version: 32.0 (2.0) Firmware Version: v18D User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; rv:32.0) Gecko/32.0 Firefox/32.0 -------------------------------------------------- Repro frequency: 5/5 screenshot

Flagging Jenny, but I can't think of any instance in which we'd have two icons. Sounds like a bug to me.

Hi there, The square icon isn't tied to OTA update, it appears whenever there's connection activity such as loading a webpage, refreshing email etc. Thanks!
Flags: needinfo?(jelee)
@Oliver, Could you confirm that in your test only OTA but no other connection activity?
Flags: needinfo?(onelson)
Can confirm, OTA is the only network activity taking action. Neither OTA[arrow] or square-download icon are visible; once OTA is started/resumed from notification tray then both will appear. Upon canceling, both icons disappear. Issue still reproes on todays latest. Thanks, Oliver. Ok, I guess it is as design. It does not only happen as OTA downloading but also happen at any other network activities which have its own icon (e.g. download files). At this kind of cases, the square icon would be shown to indicate user his/her phone having network activities, and the other icon is used to tell user what is the specific action. In my opinion, it is ok but might be a little confusing for some users. @Jenny, Could you confirm that?

Hi Hermes, It can be a little confusing, but I think it's fine as the behavior can be learned over time. need info Francis to comment on this. Hi Francis, Can you take a look at comment 6 and let us know what you think? Thanks =)!

I agree with Jenny, this behaviour seems fine to me. Not a bug as the behaviour is as intended. Pinging Rob as we may want to depriotize the network activity icon while the download icon is shown.
