jag pointed this out to me [linux rh7.2, 2001.12.20.08], but am wondering whether or not this is expected behavior. jennifer says she'll look into it... 0. in the 3pane window, let's start with the Inbox selected, with its contents listed in the thread pane. 1. right-mouse click another folder [eg, my "bugmail" folder] in the folder pane to bring up the context menu. results: the context menu appears, but, in addition, the "bugmail" folder msgs are now loaded into the thread pane. expected? shouldn't the thread pane still list the previous folder's contents, while you're displaying the context menu of another?

This is a tough one. I'm not exactly sure of the "correct" behavior. My first impulse was to agree with the bug. But after playing around with Windows OS, Mac OS and some other email products, i'm not sure. cc'ing Lori and Scott for there opinions. Mac OS and Windows 2k both seem to select an object when you activate its context menu. Outlook Express: Context menu on a folder. Folder gets "selection" appearance (blue background) but messages not displayed in Message Pane for that folder. Folder that was originally selected has dotted line selection around it and its messages are still being displayed in Message Pane. This would support this bug. And this behavior is kinda nice. User might want to get the context menu for a folder but not actually select the folder. But, they do the opposite for the Message Pane! Context menu on a message. Message gets "selection" appearance (blue background) And contents of message Is displayed in Preview Pane. Message takes focus. Messenger 4.x. It selects the folder, displays the context menu for that folder, but doesn't display anything in the Message Pane. Message Pane, context select a message --> Preview Pane is the same as Outlook Express. Eudora makes you double click a folder to display its contents in a different window. Content menu on a folder selects that folder, but doesn't give its associated window focus. Focus remains on previously selected Message Pane. (i don't like this behavior at all)

I think with the folder pane you don't want to load the folder because it's a pretty time consuming operation and it potentially takes you out of the context you want to be in. I also think this is a dup of 30560 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 30560 ***
