Description:
Anar Simpson will have the title of Special Advisor, Office of the Chair
Women, Girls and Technology in Emerging Markets. In this role, Anar will have a "matrixed" relationship into Mark Surman and the Mozilla Foundation team. The Special Advisor’s core function is to add momentum to Mozilla’s activities to empower women and girls to particular fully as digital citizens of the web. She will do this through the following types of activities:
Evangelism re: connecting Mozilla values, products and programs related to women and girls with global, national and regional bodies including the UN, EU and US State Department, and other organizations with similar interests.
Exploration, evangelism and partnership development for programs focused on women, girls and digital literacy, including advice to the Mozilla Learning Networks team on a possible initial experiment between UN Women / Technovation / Mozilla Clubs. If the initial experiment is successful, this may also involve gathering resources for a larger scale version of this work.
Support for the Mozilla Foundation in convening a handful of consultations where high profile leaders will discuss how the “Mozilla Acadamy” (aka “Mozilla Non-Academy”, aka “Mozilla Learning Network”) might be designed to specifically improve web literacy, technical skills and leadership opportunities for women and girls in developing marketings. This will be based on an event template developed by the Foundation team, but will require significant work to recruit the right participants, coordinate logistics, prepare content and capture of the output, evaluation and iteration of the events.
We propose structuring this as a consulting contract. Mozilla would pay your reasonable expenses, including travel. We expect that you would continue your other activities in empowering women and girls, and that the Special Advisor role is not a full time role. We propose paying you a retainer, equal to something like the daily rate for 2 or 3 days of consulting, say $2,500 a month. Over this time we can explore a deeper role for you to develop long-term strategic partnerships, program frameworks, and fundraising relationships as part of the Mozilla braintrust.
