Details

From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows 98; DigExt)
BuildID: 2001122106

Whenever I type an address into the Mozilla address bar, it goes nowhere. It
recognises that something's happened and so stops trying to guess the URL I was
typing, but utterly fails to download the requested page or even visibly
attempt.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. (I dualboot Win98 & 2000, and they share a Mozilla install with profiles
modified so they're not in the application data folder for each OS, just in
case this is relevant. This is happening in both)
2. Load browser component
3. Type address
4. Press Enter and watch it fail to fetch the page.

Actual Results: It stopped trying to guess the URL but wouldn't look up the
URL. IOW, it's only usable as a browser to pages which are linked to from my
homepage...

Expected Results: Attempted to fetch the requested URL

As I mentioned above, I dualboot and the two windows installs share a Mozilla
install, so it's possible that that's not helping. Though, having said that, it
was initially installed OTT of the 0.9.6 install (itself OTT of 0.9.5 which was
what originally created the profiles from NS4.7) in 2000 and was throwing up
this problem before I'd even installed it in 98.

Other than that, everything's pretty much standard. I have to suspect my
config's highlighting something odd as this bug seems way too major for it to
be anything like universally applicable, but here it is because I get it and
it's forced me into IE...
Have you installed mozilla in a fresh directory (not over an older build ) ?
Can you try a new profile (run "mozilla -profilemanager" and create a second
test profile)

I had exactly the same problem as the original submitter.

I launched mozilla with -profilemanager, created a new account with a different
name and the problem disappeared. I also noticed that when I launch mozilla with
the "default" profile, the url box and the browser window are empty (and the
original problem exists again). When I launch mozilla with the other profile,
the default startup-page loads and the url is swown in the box.
seems like a dup of 90337...
