So, when I switch tabs I get a 2 to 3 full second delay before the active tab UI switches and before the content area switches. This is on Win8[.1] (OS version: 6.3.9600) and I have not yet tried in Safe Mode. I do have (and use) chatzilla, but I was able to reproduce the issue prior to starting chatzilla in this session. Pasted below is my about:support info, followed by my about:tabs info (from glandiums tab counting extension) This is with today's Dev-Edition (5-22) and I updated from at least Monday 5-11 as the oldest possible, where I didn't experience this issue. (If you can't reproduce a similar issue, I'm happy to help bisect) In between that last build and this one I did an update (that was staged earlier) and then got the doorhanger prompt about e10s "is coming soon" I selected "NOT NOW". incase that matters. If you need more info from me, it is best to use a needinfo for a fast turnaround. With this much of an issue for me, I worry that users will abandon Firefox Dev Edition (or firefox entirely) if they experience this much of a delay. ==================== Application Basics Interestingly, tab switching in chatzilla itself, is still instantaneous to the eye.

As said in IRC, after I saw the n-i my tab switching emmediately jumped down to an average of ~0.5s each. I'm seeing a lot of traffic over the multiprocess shim layer (which is enabled regardless of whether e10s is enabled or not). I suspect this is probably traffic caused by LastPass, and that might explain why you're seeing a variety of speeds - it'll probably get worse if you view very complex pages with many DOM nodes. If you disable LastPass, does the performance get better?

Kinda expected that disabling e10s wouldn't have caused such a severe perf regression though... Kinda sucks for any addon author dealing with this, and even more so for users who don't know why *Firefox* suddenly is starting to misbehave. Even worse, for the shear number of passwords I have, and because Mozilla OpSec told me to use LastPass instead of storing in Firefox, I'm kinda locked to LastPass until OpSec recommends something better and/or Firefox's Builtin manager improves :/

This last profile shows Google Drive doing some pretty heavy stuff in JS, and blocking the main thread. So I think we've identified LastPass as the culprit. What's not great is that LastPass is causing lots of shim traffic _despite_ e10s being disabled. If there's been a serious performance regression with _non-e10s_ with LastPass due to the shims, that's probably something we should fix ASAP, since the shims are now on Aurora. Callek - can you please file a new bug with your profile from comment 4, Cc'ing myself, :billm and :gabor, and describing how you were hitting this performance bottleneck despite e10s being disabled? That bug should probably be in Firefox :: Extension Compatibility, and block bug 1116854.

I use lastpass, and iirc I disabled e10s due to this (and other) bugs. I am on aurora though so I may have not noticed any recent 're-enable e10s and see how it works' moments. Though based on r-d and related discussion it sounds like its not being enabled for lastpass users in the wild atm anyway.
