Details
Mozilla's list of folders that pops up as a menu underneath the "File" tool on
the mail toolbar should sort the folders alphabetically.
Using large numbers of folders in a hierarchical tree of folders-within-folders
to organize large numbers of messages is difficult if the folders don't show up
in alphabetical order. With a message selected, trying to file it into a folder
using the toolbar "File" button is very difficult if each of the submenus is not
presorted.
Nav 4.x correctly presents the list of folders in an alphabetically sorted fashion.

I can confirm this bug, using Mozilla 0.9.7 and IMAP transport on Windows XP.
Note that the list of IMAP folders in the box on the left is sorted, while the
list of IMAP folders listed under the "File" drop-down button at the top of the
main mailbox window, as well as the IMAP folders listed under the "File"
drop-down button in the Advanced Search window, are unsorted. I don't see
anything special about the order of the folders; presumably it is the order in
which IMAP reports the folders.
