Text-selection thumbs are covered up by keyboard's autocorrect area, so it's hard to select text on last line

STR:
1. In Messages application, start composing a new text.
2. Enter 2 lines of text (using return key on keyboard) e.g.:
test aaa
test bbb
3. Long-press "bbb" to select that word.
4. Try to adjust either selection thumb to point to a different precise spot on the 2nd line.
ACTUAL RESULTS: The thumbs are mostly obscured by the (empty) autocorrect area. Most of my touches to try to move a thumb are ignored, because I miss.
EXPECTED RESULTS: Thumbs should be visible (floating above autocorrect area perhaps? Or inverted to be above the line instead of below it? not sure. Just needs to have an actually-possible-to-hit hitbox).
If you try to do this for text on the *first* line, it's much easier, because the selection thumbs aren't covered up.
