RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1166779

People

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0
Build ID: 20150525141253
Firefox for Android

Steps to reproduce:

Start at http://nevcal.com/temporary/browserbugs/
Click the link in item 2, which is an MP3 file of a cow mooing.

Actual results:

(on friend's Nexus with Android 5) A dialog appears asking about how to open file... Google Play or Firefox. Choosing Firefox starts a download and saves the file. Choosing Google Play causes the cow to moo.

Expected results:

(on Windows FF, or on my Samsung Tab 4 with Android 4). The HTML file is replaced on screen with an audio player dialog. On Windows, I have to click the play button. On Android, it starts playing automatically.

I may have tweaked a setting on the desktop to prevent automatic playback, but either of these behaviors is better than what happens on my friend's FF with Android 5. Interestingly, his Nexus used to play MP3 in FF before being upgraded to Android 5 (from 4.xx). It seems likely that something changed on Android 5, but if so, something needs to change in FF to compensate.
