Firefox 40.0b1 on OSX 10.10.4 throwing NS_ERROR_NET_RESET after syncing to a Firefox account on a brand new profile

Steps to reproduce:
Create a new profile, log into Firefox account, set firefox to Sync and wait.
Actual results:
No visible errors reported anywhere, but about:sync-log contains lots of debug information. See attached file: firefox 40.0b1 on mac - about_sync-log.txt
Expected results:
Firefox should have synced everything from the Firefox Sync servers. A similarily new profile on Firefox 40.0b1 on Windows works just fine (this bugreport has been filed from the very profile with everything working as expected).
Turns out it was due to MTU being set to 9k in network preferences.
