What problem would this feature solve?

On MDN as of today, specification tables are not ordered in a consistent way. Looking at the "sample presentation", I don't see any particular order either:

Why should be able to order the specs by age (release date) or relevance, when we display them.

How do you know that the users identified above have this problem?

Users are swamped with less relevant specs.
Users have problems to find the current spec.

Did not run an experiment, but everyone not familiar with web standard specs is rather overwhelmed if a handful of specs is present instead of just one or two.

How are the users identified above solving this problem now?

Users spending more time to read and search for the spec they actually want to consult.

Do you have any suggestions for solving the problem? Please explain in detail.

I think ordering by age (release date of the spec) and possibly hiding old (superseded) specs, would be helpful.

Is there anything else we should know?

Since bug 1212865, the order of imported specifications has been the order on the source MDN page. The user will be able to change the order on the contribution and moderation interface, which is developed under bug 1240103.
