Details

Running Mozilla 0.9.7 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.7) Gecko/20011221 Windows 98SE, with IE6 loaded (if it makes any difference). Mozilla set for memory cache of 10240KB, in case you believe it is memory load related(I have 384MB RAM). When loading a bookmark file with a number of favicons in it, the menus will slow down for the favicons to load fully. This can cause a pause of a second of two, depending on how many favicons are loading, in the bookmark menus before they appear properly. Possible causes: 1) Favicons not loaded into memory cache when bookmarks are loaded (pre load). 2) Favicons are not kept loaded into memory after they are loaded the first time (bookmarks reload favicons each time the menus are loaded). 3) Image display code is not optimised enough to load many icons at once (wild guess). Preferred solution: Favicons should preferably be loaded into memory when bookmarks are loaded in the UI at startup. This should save the initial pause loading the images when accessing the menus. I guess the current state is set down so any changes in favicons will be displayed immediately, without having to close the browser window (?). If that is the case, then simply speeding the load of favicons each time would be preferred over only loading them when the browser window is created. Either way, favicons should not pause loading of bookmark menus.
