When casting a tab to a chromecast device using the Presentation API, only the upper part of the window is composited when the device is in portrait mode. Some change to the compositor between 40 and 41 broke this feature. It currently works in 40 but is broken in 41 and above. The page is still completely composited in landscape mode.
