Lightning 4.0.1.2, 4.2b1 and 4.4a1
Creating a new task with a custom start date (e.g. tomorrow) doesn't list that in the task sidebar of the calendar tab. It is shown in the task tab.

I think you have applied a filter to the task list of the today pane. Right click the task list and choose e.g. All from filter sub menu.

Filters seem to be in an ambiguous state: Nothing is checked in the submenu.
