Details

Firefox startup and UI animations are visibly slow and janky when the Gecko profiler is running with a 10ms sample interval. Stopping the profiler immediately fixes the sluggishness. Profile from Nightly 42 on Win10 while Firefox and OS are idle: http://people.mozilla.org/~bgirard/cleopatra/#report=72642f15132ef7ae566945fbd53bd0962f840b24

Gerald, I have not seen that feedback. Is that still valid for the current profiler implementation?

I have not seen, or heard of, such a big issue recently. I'm closing this bug as "works for me"; we will still continue working on reducing the profiler impact of course, see bug 1329212.

Vladan, if you're reading this and can still experience such an impact, please re-open this bug.
There has been a lot of work done over the past four years, you can find the latest Profiler add-on there: https://profiler.firefox.com
