At some point, we should consider making DSML a "native" format for addressing
in Mozilla, since this would allow for a nice architecture for styling/display,
serializing, and exporting addressbook entries.
Another data point: I think it is likely that directory server implementors will
start to support DSMLv2 access (over SOAP/HTTP) fairly soon. If that happens,
you will be able to send and receive DSML off the wire too.

After discussion with Dan, this would be a nice project to implement (BTW: DSML
= directory services markup language) sometime & moving to core.
