Steps to reproduce:
Now running latest win 10 and Thunderbird 38.1.0.
When sending an email it shows as sent but most recipients are not receiving the mail.
Actual results:
I have tested sending to 4 mail accounts 3 are pop and they do not receive any message One is imap and that is received OK.
I have installed Opera Mail and that is working fine for sending messages using the same settings that are in TB
I have been using TB for a lot of years without any issue and have not changed any settings. The only thing was the latest release of Win 10 (1 week ago today) and TB upgraded to 38.1.0. That is when my problem started
Expected results:
Recipients should all have received the sent emails. There were no mail error messages received to indicate any problem.
This issue still persists.
Regardless of if an account is IMAP or POP. The protocol to send mail is SMTP.
So you are using the same protocol to send your mail.
What mail provider are you using?
Are you using TLS security on your connections?
Have you received this weeks role up update to Windows 10, which fixes a number of connectivity issues?
What does this mean "most recipients are not receiving the mail." if you address a mail to say 4 people, the same mail with four addresses is passed to the SMTP server to be sent to the four addresses, so if one of those addresses gets the mail the issue is not in Thunderbird as Thunderbird successfully passed the mail to the relevant SMTP outgoing mail server. Something in Thunderbird settings like a reply-to address could be causing some rubbish spam filter somewhere to trip, but that is a trial end error process because the people that have those sorts of filters invariable do not understand them.

OK, I have done a lot of checking filters etc and still have the same issue.
I have uninstalled TB, cleared out all of the residue files / folders. Rebooted the computer and reloaded a fresh version of TB but still the same problem.
As mentioned originally, I loaded Opera mail and that uses exactly the same settings as TB so both systems will potentially be sending the same stuff to the smtp server ALL of the Opera mail is being received hence suggesting there is no filter issue that is the cause of the problem. It is still only TB imap based servers that is getting through ok - this may just be coincidental though!
Is there anything else that can be done. I have been a longtime TB user and recommender but 2 weeks without being able to tell if sent mail is getting through or not looks to be pushing me back to 'windows', which I wished to avoid in the first place.
Appreciate your help

Sorry, meant to respond to this too

My isp is skyuk and they use yahoo mail.
Yes this uses SSL/TLS using a normal password and not having any recurring password issues.
Windows and TB updates are automatic and yes they are both bang up to date

38.2.0 is out.
Note - Windows 10 has many reported issues
Component: Untriaged → Networking: SMTP
Flags: needinfo?(unicorn.consulting)
Product: Thunderbird → MailNews Core
Summary: win10 - Thunderbird unable to send mail to pop servers imap does work as does alt email client → win10 - Thunderbird unable to send mail to pop servers. imap does work, as does alt email client
Have upgraded to 38.2 and have had a few win 10 updates too and lo and behold its now working ok again.
Thanks for help.

I would take a punt on the issue being fixed by the Windows 10 weekly update. There have been many report on the internet about Network adapters and corrupt settings following upgrade. Not so much for fresh installs.
