In file
mozilla/mailnews/extensions/smime/resources/content/msgCompSMIMEOverlay.js
identifier
gComposeMsgsBundle
is referenced, which doesn't seem to be defined anywhere. If something goes
wrong on signing or encrypting, the code stop with a JavaScript error, unable to
bring up an error message.

No idea what happened. That bundle variable has been renamed over two months
ago, and that refered string name is nowhere defined.
Apparently the intention was to show an error message, when the user selects
sign or encrypt, but no cert has been configured.
This must be fixed by implementing feedback to the user correctly.

S/MIME bugs are automatically nsbeta1 candidates. (this is a bulk update - there
may be some adjustment of the list).

Removing nsbeta1 nomination, as this bug has been nsbeta1+.

I've already fixed this with my latest patch to bug 129100.
