   ---- Additional Comment #25 From valette@crf.canon.fr 2002-01-16 01:31 -------

I saw my problem and made the additional comments based on what I see on WINDOWS
XP professional US version with all availiable windows update patches included.

   ---- Additional Comment #26 From valette@crf.canon.fr 2002-01-16 02:01 -------

To explain what I did :
    1) I checked the box in the mail news peference menu to make mozilla mail
the default mailer. The box is greyed. If I exit and restart, the chnage is lost
the box remains unchecked.
    2) I used the internet option menu from control panel and indeed was able to
see mozilla mail and put it as the default mailer application. It did something
as resatrting outlook, it proposed me to put outlook as the default mailer. If I
answer yes the value is changed back to outlook.

But using office XP, if I open an excell document and do "file"->"send to"->
"Mail to As attachement, I get an error:

"Either there is no default mail or the current mail cleint cannot fullfill the
messaging request..."

NB : mozilla mail is properly configured as I use it to read and send mail from
my windows box (when forced to use it due to nice microsoft proprietary format :-))
I am surprised to hear that the checkbox for the pref is grayed out. It is not
supposed to be unless the preference is locked. Which build are you using?

Doing this

will set Outlook as the default mail client.

Can you check which mapi32.dll you have in your system32 directory?

also see related bug 120516
The build is the one for 0.9.7 with talkback enabled.
How do I check what mapi32.dll I have?
I see this recently as Netscape 6.x and Mozilla now change each others' settings
of default mail application, and system settings, they appear to be making
changes to say the registry in win2k, once I select/unselect the checkboxes in
one version it modifies mozilla & visa-versa.. Is there a way to get this
seperated? so I can select one over the other? Not have both apps change. The
real problem stems from the fact that netscape is Mozilla according to some of
the registry entries.
Depends on: 123596
The fix for bug # 123596 has changed the way Mozilla sets itself as the default
mail application which could effect the problem seen here.

Trix, can you please verify if this problem is not seen now. The registry key
values for HKLM/Software/Clients/Mail should be "Netscape 6" for Netscape
and "Mozilla" for Mozilla.
Current builds(Netscape:2002022103 & Mozilla:2002022114) register the correct
mail client name when it is selected. Rajiv, can you resolve this bug so I can
verify it.

Thanks,
Trix
This does not happen after the fix for bug # 123596. Trix, please make sure to
verify this on XP. thanks.

Marking this as fixed.

I tested on 0.9.9 it and it works as expected. Just that killing it without
sending the message crashed excel...
