When I make this video full screen over and over again, in some of the transitions, I can see partial states of the video being sized up/down to cover the whole content area.

Are you in e10s? Does that happen after the fade-through-black transition finishes?

Yes.

No, for example when going fullscreen, I see that the video resizes to the size of the content area before the fade-to-black animation starts.

Hmm, it seems JWPlayer puts the player full of the content area as soon as the fullscreen button is clicked. Generally, page should do so only when it receives fullscreenchange event which indicates it actually enters fullscreen.

I suggest we either close this bug as INVALID, or move this bug to Air Mozilla component.

Well, if it's a bug in JWPlayer, someone should reach out to them!
Component: Audio/Video → Desktop
Product: Core → Tech Evangelism
Mozilla is a enterprise customer of JWPlayer. They're pretty good at responding when I have technical questions. Unfortunately I don't have a direct contact there.
Anyway, this should not block bug 1177155 as it is not actually something we can fix in the browser side.
No longer blocks: 1177155
Peter, could you ask your contacts if this is an issue JWPlayer knows about?

I've emailed their technical support team. Let's hope they respond.

Also, we're using JWPlayer 6 in Air Mozilla and this summer JWPlayer 7 was released which I've not tried out yet.

It seems to me that the demo on its official site also has this behavior, which probably indicates that it is not fixed in the latest version.
Just checking up on this, the issue seems to still exist.

Peter - did you ever hear back from them?

Sadly, no news from the JWPlayer team. But, I suspect, there's not a whole lot we can do in terms of Air Mozilla.
If JWPlayer has bugs, it's likely they just need our help. Or better, we can learn from their challenges to improve the video playing functionality natively. After all, JWPlayer is just a fancy skin/veneer on top of the <video> element.

Thanks Peter. I think we should close this bug if there is nothing actionable here, unless someone objects.
I'm also seeing rough transitions to full screen using Chrome.
