Details
This feature has been resolved as WONTFIX in bug 22796 (see discussion there). It was argued that a precondition for this feature to be sensible was a default download feature (bug 121027) which I will mark as a blocker of this one. If we have a default download directory and we click on a not recognized binary link, we should pre-download: 1) If the according MIME type has already been configured as "always save to disk" or 2) as soon as the users presses "save to disk" in the dialog which prompts the user how mozilla should open/save the file but before the location dialog pops up (if we still need a file location dialog with a default save directoy).

Just to note, that I (the reporter) changed my mind on this one. (I don't consider it worthwile anymore) If mscott wants to close this bug WONTFIX, I am perfectly happy with it.
