hrm, appears to work using the same installer blob for mozilla --except that i got an error when talkback was being installed [don't remember the error number, alas, my hands moved faster than my brain; perhaps it was -223..?]. however, there was no crash. is anyone else seeing the crash with commericial bits? or mozilla bits? if only the former, i'll move it to bugscape...
The 2002-01-23-03-trunk commercial stub installer worked. It took unusually long to download, but it completed.
QA Contact -> K'Trina Sarah, an install.log might be usefull as well if you got one. (Netscape folder) The talkback error using the mozilla installer is quite important as well, since we recently added talkback to nightly mozilla builds on mac, and this functionality hasn't been tested thoroughly yet.

jj, I'm seeing a failure to complete install as well. It's failing in the talkback XPI I believe. Even though it fails I'm still able to start the resulting installed build.
<grumble> my 3rd attempt to install with the commercial blob installer actually worked. feh!

okay, filed bug 121494 for the talkback issue.
Seeing SleepQ stuff in the stack remnants, I'm wondering if this crash is actually being caused by first runing an older build which still exhibited bug 120451.
ha, here's a reproducible recipe: 1. restart machine 2. fire up older build [eg, 1/9 9.x bits in classic emulation mode under 10.1.2] 3. download installer bits 4. run installer results: crashed while installing xp com. will add install.log soon. thanks to sfraser for helping narrow this down [via irc conversation].
hrm, the install.log is empty. not good.

btw, if i skip steps 2 and 3 in comment 9, the installation goes fine. ie, restarting the machine then [re-]running the installer works [did remove the Netscape Folder beforehand].
redid the recipe in comment 9 with one variation: at step 2, the older build i used was 2002.01.22.08. results: installation went fine. so, this does look like a dup of 120451, since the older build i used has the fix for that [related] issue. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 120451 ***
