Firefox for Android Nightly 44.0a1 2015-10-15 and Beta 42.0b6 on Nexus S with Android 4.1.2

Opening several urls from external applications in Firefox doesn't trigger the prompt to use the tab queues, i.e. open the urls as tabs when the user switches to Firefox. Tried this with several applications and opened up to 6 urls. This should happen after 3 urls. about:buildconfig lists the used API as 11.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Wipe all data for the app from System settings > Apps > Nightly/Firefox Beta
2. Open 5 urls from a different app, e.g. a feed or news reader.
Actual result:
Prompt not shown.
Expected result:
Prompt shown.

The UI for tab queue is visible in the preferences and enabling it modifies the behavior like desired.
Sebastian, do you know what's going on here?

Not yet. I see the prompt on my devices. But I'll try with an Android 4.1 emulator.

I get the prompt on an Android 4.1.2 emulator with Nexus S configuration.
mcomella, liuche: Does anyone of you have a Nexus S at hand?

Yes (with Nightly 2015-10-27).

But nothing after four times tapping and opening a link from an external app.

I have two. I'll let you know how it goes.

D'uh! Both my Nexus S devices are still running Gingerbread, which does not support Tab Queues.

Are you interested in updating one of them? The factory images are still available:

I updated one of finkle's Nexus S to Android 4.1.2, installed Firefox 42.0.1 and I can see the prompt after opening four links (All from the messages app).

Aryx: Do you still have this problem? It's not reproducible for me; even with a Nexus S running Android 4.1.2. I always get the prompt when opening the fourth external link.

Hi Sebastian, I still had this issue and had the phone in Orlando, but also a crammed schedule. But I think I found the reason: I hadn't set a default browser so I always got asked which browser I wanted to use to open the link. After setting Nightly as default browser and opening a bunch of links, the dialog got shown.
Flags: needinfo?(aryx.bugmail)
Summary: Prompt to enable tab queues not shown → Prompt to enable tab queues not shown if no default browser set
So you always opened the browser using the switcher dialog? I still get the prompt when doing this multiple times (On an Android 5 device at least).
Opened the same links from the same application but in a different order and didn't get the prompt after a Nightly reset and with the browser selector active.
So now I saw the prompt for tab queue after I continued from comment 14. I had noticed that closing a tab will show a similar styled hint after closing a tab (to undo the closing). So it seems that counting the links opened from external applications didn't work before that (no idea about causality).
Let's see if we get more reports and STR. Blocking tab-queue-v2 to get back to it when we start to work on/triage the next version.
