I've seen this on both release and nightly for a little while now (not sure how long). STR: - Use firefox for some period of time - After a while (normally an hour or two) the browser will stop loading pages. Navigate to a new page, and the loading spinner in the tab bar will spin forever. - about: pages still load, but nothing else does. - Don't think it's a DNS issue, as trying to navigate directly to e.g. 216.58.219.238 doesn't work either. This happens with all pages, and the load never times out. I've seen it with both e10s and non-e10s sessions. Existing tabs stop working too (e.g. facebook chat or google hangouts disconnects). I don't have any addons installed or any plugins. No modified prefs either.
If you open the Developer Tool's Network tab and load a page, do requests succeed? What is the status of the failing ones? Anything suspicious in about:networking (like many open sockets)? Other applications still work, I guess? As you have no addons or modified prefs, can you browse in safe mode and check if it also happens there? Thank you.
Next time I hit a failed state I'll give these a whirl. Thanks for the suggestions.

OK, so I've looked into this more now. - about:networking shows *nothing* when it's in the failed state. No sockets, no http connections. Nothing. - Activity Monitor shows no packets being sent from/received by the Nightly process. - Developer Tools' network tab shows requests (allegedly) being made, but they're not succeeding. HOWEVER: - If I reload my Facebook tab, everything immediately starts working again. If I reload any other tab, it just sits showing the spinner in the tab bar forever. I normally always have a Facebook tab open.

this is consistent with bug 1247205 - which is fixed on firefox >= 45 (currently the beta channel). If the problem recurs for the reporter on such builds please reopen
