It says that it modifies it in a hand-wavy way, but doesn't show how it does it.

After reading the documentation, I am no better off understanding the property ("it exists") than when I started.
Priority: P5 → --
I think this page has been updated quite a bit since this issue was reported, we now have live examples and also the Guides to Flexbox which detail this in full. Properties like flex-grow are tricky as they don't really work in isolation, if the initial reporter (or anyone else) has thoughts as to what else could be on the property page I'd be interested. I just added links to the other flex properties and the shorthand as I think that is relevant info.
Documentation has been added that shows what the property means in the interim 3 years.
