>>> My Info: Win7_64, Nightly 45, 32bit, ID 20151201030226 STR: 0. Make sure firefox is your default browser AND there's only 1 opened window which isn't private 1. Right-click australis menu button (≡), click "Customize", move "downloads" button to toolbar 2. Drag-n-drop this tab to the downloads button (or press Ctrl+S -> Enter) to save the page 3. Click "downloads" button to open downloads popup 4. Click the last downloaded file to open it in a new tab 5. Press Ctrl+Shift+I / Ctrl+L to interact with the window Result: After Step 4 firefox window becomes not_focused. So there's no action after Step 5. Expectations: Firefox window should stay focused after Step 4, just like GoogleChrome browser. I'm marking it as "Shell integration" bug, because if I set a hotkey in OS to open a site in default browser, then press that hotkey instead of Step 4 - I get the same result. And of course if some application lags a bit or delays some actions, then there's a huge chance that I can (and will) focus firefox window before any site will open. This leads to the same result.
Summary: Firefox window isn't active when I open a file/site from downloads popup (or from an application running in background) → Firefox window looses focus when I open a file/site from downloads popup (or from an application running in background)
This was regressed between 2012-03-27 and 2012-03-28 by (obviously?) bug 491947. Pushlog_url: > http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?fromchange=0ff816e5e992&tochange=c3fd0768d46a Note that this is NOT a dupe of 775400. I have browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground set to false
Blocks: 491947

(Of course, I've found the regression range using a hotkey that opens a site in default browser)
Has STR: --- → yes
Summary: Firefox window looses focus when I open a file/site from downloads popup (or from an application running in background) → Firefox window loses focus when I open a file/site from downloads popup (or from an application running in background)
Priority: -- → P5

I confirm this on Windows 10 20H2 and Firefox Developer Edition 85.0b4 (64-bit).
When I open page I just saved via Save Page WE by pressing on downloads in unhidden toolbar button, it loses focus, and I have to press once on page anywhere, so that title turns from gray to white letters aka becomes focused. Please fix it.
In the meantime I will try other solutions, to check could this be something with other apps or settings.

Also issue becomes more obvious if you disable "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" in Windows 10 Settings - Mouse.
The difference is that with lost focus at least scrolling works, when that button is enabled, but PgUp, PgDn, Home, End buttons do not work until clicked at least once.
While if that is disabled, you can't even scroll, so it is more obvious that window lost focus then.

I'm going to remove this from the Shell Integration component, because that's not really the right place for it. We use this component very narrowly to track issues with two features: Setting Firefox as the default browser, and setting the desktop background from Firefox.

Component: Shell Integration → Untriaged
Priority: P5 → --

I have managed to reproduce this issue in all the last versions of the main channels (Nightly v86.0a1 (2021-01-19), Beta v85.0b4, Release v84.0.2 and ESR v78.6.0esr) on Windows 10.

I wanted to try to confirm the regression window, but it appears I cannot use mozregression to investigate. The problem is when setting it as a default browser and attempting to open a downloaded page. It always opens a new profile and I don't know how to work around that.

Furthermore, I am setting the (Core) DOM: UI Events and Focus Handling component to this bug. If incorrect, please set a more appropriate one.

Component: Untriaged → DOM: UI Events & Focus Handling
OS: Unspecified → Windows
Product: Firefox → Core
Hardware: Unspecified → Desktop
Severity: normal → S3
