Problem: when you activate the 'Advanced Search', and then dismiss it, pulling up Edit/Preferences also reactivates the Advanced Search screen. Steps to reproduce Pull up your email Click on the Advanced... button above the listing of the contents of your mail folder Dismiss the Advanced Search window by hitting the 'X' in the upper right hand corner Select Edit/Preferences from the menu BY KEYBOARD --> alt-E, Up Arrow, ENTER Result: both the Advanced Search screen comes up, as well as the Preferences screen ahead of it Suspected cause: the ENTER key on the Preferences menu element is being caught, which activates the Edit Preferences screen, but that ENTER keypress may also be passed to the Advanced Search button Build tested: 20020128

nominating to see what evaluation we get for fixing in next release. It's a weird one, and with the increase focus on keyboard usage, I hate to have a window you just closed pop back up.

I just tried this and couldn't replicate it on Linux, partially because Advanced... isn't there anymore. I also tried it with things like highlighting a folder that has sub folders (it collapses/expands on enter) or a message and it didn't appear on those either. Build ID: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8a5) Gecko/20041124 Someone want to try this on Windows NT with a current build as it may already be fixed by now? Then we can close another bug down if it is.
Stephen, I think this is now works for me, can you give it a try and let us know please?
Instead of the Advanced button which no longer exists, I used Tools | Search Messages, both by its accesskey and its accelerator, then I launched Edit | Preferences by using ALT-E, arrow keys and then ENTER. Worksforme with build Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050318 on Windows XP.
