Build ID: 20151029151421

Steps to reproduce:

It seems my database got corrupted. I wanted to close an entry in the reminder window and it told me it can't write because of an error. I restarted TB and suddenly all my reminder were gone except 2. Shortly later 7 more came to it. But still there were way more because i was in hospital and had no time to check things.

Now i have to go back not even to the hospital first day but even further back because i don't know from which time on i had open reminders.

That is really annoying and should not happen.

Expected results:

The reminder should be saved too.

I observed this a bit now and it seems that behaviour had nothing to do with a corrupted database. It seems it is normal that reminder are gone missing. Which in my eyes is not acceptable since when the reminder vanishs and I effectively did not clear the topic then this is very bad. Making me forget about it as if I solved it.

So when checking I found that with a normal restart I lose the repeats of daily and weekly reminders. (I had TB run for a couple of weeks only broken with sleep mode) This might not be so bad for some reminders but it is actually bad in some cases. For example a weekly payment has to be done. Checking in reminder list should show that I missed 2 payments yet and need to pay 3 times. It would be a quick check until the real payment needs to be done and I check more thouroughly.

But some normal reminder vanished too. Though they had the same setting like other alarms that still remained in the list.

I now have read someone guess that reminders that are over 30 days old vanish out of the reminder window. Well, that is absolutely inacceptable. I need to trust my calendar software to server as my outsourced reminding module. It can't be that I have to manually check it there are old things some time ago that I still missed to handle.

Though yesterday it became worse. I had some CPU-hungry applications running. TB did not get enough CPU and asked me if I want to close some lightning process. I disagreed but all reminders were gone. Only new reminders popped up from then.

I never lost an actual appointment or task. Only there is that problem with the reminder.

In fact what I would need to trust lightning is that it in no case decides that a reminder can be discarded. Only Iam should be allowed to do so. Otherwise I can't trust the app.

And it seems the backup feature of the appointments and tasks is way better than that of the reminders. Maybe there is no backup at all for them. But there should.

I searched for Lightningextensions that might fix that but did not find anything. And in lightning options Alarms there is no option that I did not check that could lead to this becoming stable. There is "Show missed appointments" checked but it seems that can't be trusted.
Why is this still unconfirmed? Even the newest update of lightning shows the same behaviour. I lose reminder simply because they are in the past. That is not acceptable for an extension that should help me to remind me on important things.

It should be possible to be confirmed by everyone.

Now the only way to handle this is for me to... again... go back to where I established the appointments last time again at a certain date and recreate them now in may. Surely that is not something that has to be done.

I hope this get fixed soon since that seems to be the worst problem for me that lightning is showing. :/

This is correct, it has been done on purpose, see bug 1140035 comment 1 and:

http://mxr.mozilla.org/comm-central/source/calendar/base/src/calAlarmService.js#239

I think we can mark this as a duplicate of bug 1140035 for the 30 days (one month) limit, but it might exist an older bug too. There are many bug report about alarms, also because this behavior is subjective, for example there are request to not trigger at all reminder caused by old event.
