Wayne, can you elaborate on how exactly YouTube videos are "not responding"? Is the video black? Does the video start playing and then stop?
Re: Loic - I will try a fresh profile and get back to you.
Re: Chris - At the very top of the screen (Not Responding) shows at the end of the line. Video is not black. There is nothing that can be done once that happens except to use task manager to stop the process. Trying anything else causes some sort of transparent overlay to appear and the message about shutting down firefox or to wait to appear.

Here's a screenshot of what happens at YouTube
on winXP it's gone nutty lost h264 hardware acceleration and html5 freezes up browser and the flash player freezes up browser causing system to freeze as moving mouse even locks up until i can get to play button or close tab. But there's another bug opened about it, but I get similar with lockups on youtube/vimeo/dailymotion/twitch/etc.

with loss of hardware acceleration in h264 plus youtube html5 all freezing it's been weird
Can you paste in the graphics section of about:support and also try disabling addons using the following steps:

* Click on hamburger menu (three lines in top/right corner)
* Click on ?
* Click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Click on Restart
* Try your steps to reproduce above

Tried that. No change.
This looks like a driver issue. Can you please paste in the graphics section of about:support ?

Unfortunately, dropping Flash support is a YouTube decision. We can't support
hardware decoding of H.264 

I guess that's why I'm having the problem, if it's possible add the ability to uninstall the cisco h.264 plugin that way can use the h.264 codec with nvidia supplied, or ffmpeg, that would give hardware acceleration of h.264 content.  

And VP9 is still unable to play without the browser freezing up at times.

Tested the Speedbit video accelerator addon and youtube plays smooth 1080p even 60fps. And it does hardware acceleration on h.264.

The Cisco plug-in is only used for WebRTC. It is possible to (erroneously) enable it for media playback but it breaks everything.

I think it would be nice if you would create a release that works that you could point people to and say maybe it's tot the most advanced, but it's stable and it works.

Wayne, I see you are running 64-bit Firefox (version 43). Can you reproduce the problem with 32-bit Firefox? The current release version is 44.

I've updated to 47.0.1 and the "Not Responding" message shows up very infrequently now. What I've been doing is to go to "about:preferences#advanced" and click the "Clear Now" button for "Cached Web Content" which will be at the default max of 350MB. (YouTube seems to fill up the cache more than any other site I visit). Then I restart Firefox (which will be using 500-600MB of memory) and everything works fine.

Why is YouTube such a memory hog? Who knows... Constantly loading more crapola I imagine :)

YouTube uses MSE and load data using XHR requests. Those aren't cached.

So watching videos on YouTube won't cause your cache size to increase.

If it does, it's not the videos themselves.
