Firefox 32-bit 43.0.4, Win10x64 Also happens on my Nightly 46.0a1 2016-01-11 On ideone.com, using the keyboard to switch between line numbers results in an odd pattern of dots appearing in the line number column (see screenshot). The dot patterns disappear shortly after they appear, if left alone (I think the cursor blink clears the rect to the correct colour). If you keep the dot patterns visible by going up and down lackadaisically you might see that the patterns are the same when you come back to them for about the duration of a cursor blink, then change to a new pattern. I apologize that there isn't more to go one. Such is the nature of graphics bugs, I suppose? Does this occur if you disable Direct2D? (gfx.direct2d.disabled to true in about:config, then restart Firefox)

Sadly, yes. Anything else I can try?

That nixed it. Guess we start blaming the compositor?

I've got an Intel HD 5500 as well, but I see this bug in quite a lot of places, most notably on YouTube, and it's a lot worse when a video is playing (See attached .gif of the bug.) about:support information: Features Compositing Direct3D 11 Asynchronous Pan/Zoom wheel input enabled WebGL Renderer Google Inc. -- ANGLE (Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500 Direct3D11 vs_5_0 ps_5_0) Hardware H264 Decoding Yes; D3D11 blacklisted with DLL igd10iumd32.dll (20.19.15.4331); Using D3D9 API Direct2D true DirectWrite true (10.0.10586.494) GPU #1 Active Yes Description Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500 Vendor ID 0x8086 Device ID 0x1616 Driver Version 20.19.15.4331 Driver Date 11-18-2015 Drivers igdumdim64 igd10iumd64 igd10iumd64 igd12umd64 igdumdim32 igd10iumd32 igd10iumd32 igd12umd32 Subsys ID 20578086 RAM Unknown Diagnostics AzureCanvasAccelerated 0 AzureCanvasBackend direct2d 1.1 AzureContentBackend direct2d 1.1 AzureFallbackCanvasBackend cairo

Things got a lot better for me with newer Intel graphics drivers, FWIW. I'm actually kinda surprised you're on 4331 still as I thought Intel had pushed a newer version to Windows Update at this point. Anyway, you can try the newer ones direct from Intel: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26078/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?v=t

> Things got a lot better for me with newer Intel graphics drivers, FWIW. This is on my work machine, and I can't update the drivers. However, my machine at home has the same GPU and same bug, and I think it has newer drivers, but if it doesn't, I'll update and retest.
Mine's 4444, latest is 4463. Interestingly, when I try to update I get told it won't go and am pointed to the following website: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005469.html Apparently, since my laptop manufacturer (Lenovo) made changes to the driver, Intel won't allow me to install its driver as an upgrade. Probably a sensible idea at the time, but pretty baffling since Lenovo is unlikely to keep updating these drivers on my behalf. So, updating the driver's a no-go for me, too.
FWIW, you can get around that Lenovo insanity by manually updating the drivers from Device Manager. Not that that's much of a solution for the world at large.
Updated to 4501 (latest from Intel, using the "unpack the zip and find the Have Disk button" method) and it still happens :(
