I can confirm this issue in Firefox 76.0.1 on a Linux system. It is inconsistent. It happened last a few minutes ago. Ten tabs were open in the window. I tapped ctrl+w to close the tab; the window closed instead.

Severity: normal → S3

I've experienced this behaviour twice today with Firefox 141.0 on Windows 11 x86_64.

In neither case did the "Close N tabs?" warning appear, and that warning does appear when pressing ctrl+shift+w, so it's not an accidental keypress.

In the second instance, the closed window did not appear in the "History > Recently closed windows" menu, though selecting "Reopen all windows" from that menu did reopen the incorrectly closed window with all tabs.

Happened to me just now on 141.0.3 (64-bit). Can confirm it wasn't a mistake on my end because I had downloads running and each time I'd try to close a tab it'd warn me that I'm about to exit Firefox and that'll stop the downloads. This warning saved me a few times. The issue is gone after ctrl+w caused the entire window to close, now it just closes tabs.
