Details

When Mozilla tries to receive more than approximately 10.000 articles at a time, the program blocks completely and can only be killed with the task manager.
Reporter: 1. Please always specify which "Build ID" you're using, as found in the title bar of the main Mozilla window. 2. Please change severity level to "critical". "blocker" is an extraordinary one reserved for bugs which completely prevents developers and QA people from using Mozilla. 3. It would be helpful if you could provide an example of a news server / news group which causes this problem. It _may_ be the case that it isn't the number of articles per se which causes the problem, there may be more subtle issues involved. Thank you for using Bugzilla!
Build ID: 2001122106 Affected Newsgroups (for example): de.admin.news.groups, de.comp.os.ms-windows.misc, de.comp.tv+video Bug can be avoided if I activate "Ask me before downloading more than 8000 messages"
Severity: blocker → critical
But to which news server are you connecting?
To a local news server called "Hamster" (german software). Hint: If I use another news reader (let's say, Opera), all 15.000+ posting can be retrieved without a problem, so I don't think it's an issue of my news server.
Most likely a duplicate of bug 84042. Feel free to add any additional info to make that bug more easily reproducible.
