Details

on Macintosh OS J1-8.5, Power Macintosh 8500/180 with Mozilla M-9 Steps to reproduce: 1. launch Mozilla 2. launch editor from tasks list 3. click open icon in tool bar or select open from file menu Result: Editor brings up new, blank page regression: does not happen on windows. Also happens with Mac Japanese OS 8.6
please clarify, when you say regression, do you mean this worked recently and now does not? If so, do you know approximately when this broke? Another interesting data point: can the browser open this file successfully?
(1)By regression, I mean tests on other versions and platforms to determine whether the same bug occurs elsewhere. I tried three different files on two different machines running Japanese OS, plus Japanese WindowsNT and MacOS 8.5 US. I do not know when this started happening because we have not done much testing in this area. (2)Apprunner can open files on Japanese OS in browser mode.

tague, I have no idea what to do with this. I don't have any reason to think this is in your area specifically, but we need some help. Can you do some preliminary investigation?

this bug might be related to #12640
My guess here is that file: URLs break on systems with multi-byte characters in file names. This should probably go to a necko person.

Probably a dup of 10373 -- we don't deal with non-ascii URLs yet. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 10373 ***
