The "Tasks/Privacy & Security/Cookie Manager/Unblock Cookies from this Site" feature could be a lot more useful (and correct, really) with a minor tweak: If I enable all cookies in the preferences but ask for a warning before storage, then I'm able to indicate my preference that a site can store cookies. This preference is indicated in the "Cookie Sites" tab of the Cookie Manager with the text "site can set cookies". This is great. The problem is that it doesn't fit my (common) usage model. I want to set "site can set cookies" for a specific site without having to specify my preference for every other site I visit as well. Basically, I want to accept no cookies from anyone except the sites which force me to. The natural way to do this using the current interface would be to set "Disable cookies" in the preferences, then selectively allow cookies for a site using "Unblock Cookies from this Site", which would be renamed to "Allow Cookies from this Site". No other changes would be necessary from a UI standpoint, because "Allow Cookies from this Site" is semantically inclusive of "Unblock Cookies from this Site". To summarize: 1. "Unblock Cookies from this Site" should be renamed to "Allow Cookies from this Site". 2. Selecting "Allow Cookies from this Site" should not just remove the value "site cannot set cookies"; it should replace it with "site can set cookies". Users will still be able to effect the previous "unblock" functionality if desired by using the Cookie Manager dialog.
Well your idea seems good and well at first but the fallacy in your reasoning is that "Disable cookies" completely disables cookies. Meaning no cookies are recieved and no cookies are sent. So "Allow cookies from this site" would have no effect... What you really want is more along the lines of bug 75915.
Yes, you are correct on both points. I missed bug #75915 somehow when searching for a prior report. Thanks for pointing that out. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 75915 ***
