this is deep in signing land. given that smime didn't load I don't think I should have gotten here.

The reason why we crash is that currently S/Mime depends on three parts to work
correctly:
- mime parser extensions
- S/Mime component
- security component

Each of them resides in a separate component, and just assumes the other
components will be around, too. For example, the presence of the S/Mime types in
the mime component is determined at compile time.

I therefore think this is a duplicate.
