Details

coreconf/Linux.mk says: # The linker on Red Hat Linux 7.2 and RHEL 2.1 (GNU ld version 2.11.90.0.8) # incorrectly reports undefined references in the libraries we link with, so # we don't use -z defs there. Bug 1233568 comment #9 points out that RHEL 2.1 was a long time ago, so we might not need that workaround anymore.

The oldest RHEL that gets any kind of support is RHEL-4.9, it has binutils 2.15.92.0.2-27. Second in line is RHEL-5.6 with binutils 2.17.50.0.6-14. The oldest RHEL that we are likely to build current NSS on is RHEL-5.11.z, and it has binutils 2.17.50.0.6-26 So no, I don't think that dropping support for ld 2.11 will affect anyone on any supported version of a Red Hat distribution. RHEL 2.1 is *very* old.
