Firefox Nightly 47.0a1 and Developer Edition 46.0a2 

Affected platforms]:
Mac OS 10.6 and 10.10. 

[Steps to reproduce]:
1. Open Firefox with a new profile.
2. Click in the awesome bar and type something.
3. Respond with "Yes" to "Would you like to improve your search experience with suggestions?" prompt.
4. Search for a word.
5. Hover over a suggested search result.
6. Click on Delete from the keyboard.

[Expected result]:
The suggestion on which the user hovered should be deleted.

[Actual result]:
The suggestion on which the user hovered is not deleted.

[Additional notes]:
- Issue reproduces for the Search bar also.
- Issue does not reproduce on Ubuntu 12.04, Windows 7 and Windows 10.

On Mac you have to press Shift+Delete to delete entries.  Did you really press only Delete?  That will only backspace over the last character you typed.  When I press Shift+Delete, I can't reproduce this bug.

I'm going to resolve this as invalid since your Bugzilla name shows that you are away, and I don't think that asking someone else about what you experienced in this case will be useful.  By all means please reopen if I'm misunderstanding.
