Say I search for "abc def". The next time I type "abc", in the URL bar suggestions, I see the google search link for my previous "abc def" search. But this is of little help to me. Because often, I don't search for the exact string again - I'll typically search for "abc ghi" or "abc def ghi" etc. and I can't get to either quickly from my URL suggestion. I end up typing the whole search string again. Instead, as soon as I type "abc", if the URL suggestion showed "abc def" as a search suggestion (instead of a google search link), I can freely edit it as I like. Plus, if I want to search for the same "abc def" in a different website (which I often do), it is much easier now - choose the "abc def" search suggestion and simply prefix my search keyword for the website before it. The google search link suggestion can't help here as well - I have to retype "abc def".
