Snippet Template Updates
>>Project Overview:
Hello! Given recent UX feedback, we'd like to update the look and feel of two Snippet template sets. We're hoping that we can enlist the brains of Mozilla designers to conceive of solutions to make our templates more beautiful and intuitive for our users.
1) We'd like to update send to device widget templates that enable users to send themselves a mobile Firefox download link from Desktop. Here is a deck on specific templates and challenges for guidance: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1RkrT2XsHl-W2XQL8VbU7SuEIOFF3eolEzy9hxBiUIbM/edit#slide=id.g10e820f504_0_29.
2) We'd like to update the templates that enable Firefox users to opt-out of specific Snippet communications. Here is a deck on specific templates and challenges for guidance: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Mtlj0xvkBaduIhNuRxKbfwWFB0XvD3squ4TLoZ1R2Xg/edit#slide=id.g10e84a6c7b_3_0.
Separately, we've filed bugs with the Snippet development team — Engagement Engineering — so that they can plan to implement the visual designs recommended by the Creative Team. (I'll post links to those bugs shortly.)

Hi all,
As promised, here are links to the two bugs we've filed with Engagement Engineering to implement creative changes once they've been finalized:
Send-to-device dev bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1259560.
Opt-out dev bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1259579.
Jessica Vondrak will be managing this from our side and will take the lead on working with both Creative and Engagement engineering to see this through.
Once you've identified a Creative lead for this, please let us know!
Michaela
Hi team,
I would like to set up a kick-off meeting to walk through this project and answer any questions.
Please let me know who will be working on this project and should be included in the meeting.
Thanks so much!

Hi team,
Just want to close this bug out based on what we discussed:
Regarding the send to device widget:
1. We will discontinue use of the send to device widget.
2. Should the Firefox durable team desire to use the widget in the future, they'll kick off meetings with the Firefox UX team to weigh UX suggestions against ROI and come to agreement on how to move forward.
Regarding the Snippet opt-out:
1. Jessica V. will work directly with the Firefox UX team to create a solution to make the experience more intuitive and beautiful.
Thanks everyone,
Michaela
Hi Giorgos,
Stephen mocked up this example for the opt-out snippet refresh. http://people.mozilla.org/~shorlander/about-home-snippet-opt-out/about-home-test-01.html
1) The box is changed to a slimmer square upon hover.
2) The "x" is moved slightly outside of the box.
3) "remove this" appears just above upon hover in a cleaner looking font/outline.
If you need additional information, feel free to ping Stephen, he is happy to help with implementing.
Also, he pointed out that the snippets are appearing a bit lower below the search bar recently. Any idea why this might be occurring? (you can see this in the screenshot that he attached as well).
Thanks!
Jess

It's due to the glow border of the previous design.

Stephen thanks for the update, a couple of questions:
1. Do you use any CSS styling that's available to only recent versions of Fx for this template?
2. Are there any special (visual) requirements for older Fx versions?
As a rule of thumb we maintain compat with at least Fx version 29.

None of the styling applied to the snippet in that mockup is anything we have in product.

Nothing WRT to styling has changed on about:home in that timeframe that I am aware of.

Valuable info but not what I had in mind.
I was referring mostly to CSS properties used that only exist in recent version of Fx

Oh :) I don't think CSS variables would work with 29, but I think that's it.
