From Bugzilla Helper:

I've noticed this bug somewhere in 0.9.7+ series
Fonts are rendered sometimes incorrectly and it seems to depend on 'display
resolution' setting. In my case, this artifact appears when i set 'display
resolution'='System setting', which happens to be 100dpi.
This is not X-driver specific bug, i had it on XFree 4.0.1 with nvidia drivers
and XFree 4.1 with mga drivers.
I found something similiar in bug 45838.
I will attach screenshot.
PS: I am trying to get it now and can't get it. I have crazy idea that it
disappeared after switching 'Display resolution' back and forth.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. run X -dpi 100
2. run moz, go to prefs, set 'display resolution'='System setting', restart moz.
3. go to some text&href rich website, like slashdot.org
4. try scrolling around, look for bad font rendering
4.1 try selecting blocks of text -- you should notice it shifting
couple of pixels left or right
In my 'fonts' pref page i have following settings:
'Proportional'='Sans Serif'
'Size'='12'
'Sans-serif'='microsoft-verdana...'
'Allow documents to use other fonts'='No'
yes, this is true-type font, rendered with freetype-2.0.8 lib.

Never saw this bug myself (linux)
Try setting display-resolution in mozilla prefs to 96.
