Excerpt from Comment #68 in Bug 30431
Windows users want the same behavior on all
applications for the two extra buttons. For instance, in Counterstrike - I would
want the two extra buttons to reload or pick up weapons. Currently,
Counterstrike doesn't recognize those two buttons, so I have to map that
functionality to Function keys. This messes up those buttons for browsing. IE,
therefore can't go forward and back with those two buttons - which stinks!
Netscape shouldn't follow the same mistake of doing what the entire system does.
Even Counterstrike should handle the keys differently.
IMHO - those extra buttons should be App-specific.
Now, if the user didn't want Netscape to interfere with those buttons (say it
brought up an application or something), then all they would have to do is tell
prefs that they want the buttons to be handled in the way defined in the control
panel. It should also be this way by default.
