User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:38.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/38.0 Iceweasel/38.7.1 Build ID: 20160318181316 Steps to reproduce: This bug occurs on Windows 10 64 bit and somewhat less often on Windows 7 64 bit. (32bit not tested) It does not occur on Linux 64 bit. It does occur in Firefox 42 to 45. It does not occur in Firefox 40. I am not sure, if it occurs in Version 41. Version 46.0b9 is affected. Nightly (48.0a1) seems to be not affected. Steps to show normal operation: 0. Install Windows 10. Install firefox. Install Java plugin from http://java.com/ . Open firefox with a new profile. 1. Open https://tb-preview.tembit.de/tb-fi/ 2. Log in as "mozuser" with password "test1". 3. Navigate to "Settings" / "Change PIN". 4. Wait for the Java plugin to start. You will be asked several questions if you really want to start an applet. Accept, but *don't* click, that you don't want to be asked next time. 5. Verify it worked on this page. If it worked, you will be told to check if your card reader is present. Steps to reproduce: 1 and 2 as above. 3. Click "Start Initializaton Wizard". 4. Click "Auswählen" at "Smartcard". 5. Click "Next". 6. You will be asked to run this application. Now the dialog hangs. After a few seconds a new dialog appears under the first. Its title is "not responding plugin". Actual results: Java's dialog hangs. Firefox notifies about a not responding plugin. Expected results: The Java plugin should be responsive and not hang.
Component: Untriaged → Plug-ins
This is an unfortunate but expected side effect of moving the Java plugin into a separate process like all other plugins. The Java plugin needs to change the way it does modal dialog boxes so that it stops blocking the browser event loop. Until that time there is no suitable fix for this problem. Please file this issue with Oracle.
