I think I fixed this yesterday. It got backed out because someone renamed a class I was relying on, but then jesup relanded it with the new name. This was because we tried to shut down a thread from itself.

This ought to be fixed by the shutdown fix from last week. That said, I'm keeping an eye out for other shutdown crash explanations, it's not finished.
